Established in Barbados on the white sands of Brighton beach and facing the turquoise Caribbean sea, the Stade’s West Indies Rum Distillery dates back to 1893. In keeping with its historical heritage and positive contribution to Barbadian rum, our experts produce exceptional rum thanks to a treasure trove of venerable rum stills and equipment, and ancient manuscripts sheltered in the old distiller’s vault for more than a century. The mission of the distillery hasn’t changed in almost 130 years: to create award winning Barbadian rum using the best possible methods. In 1893, George Stade, an adventurer and seasoned expert with several patents of rum and sugar making under his name wanted to fulfil his lifelong dream: to create the perfect distillery and to make the world’s best rum showcasing his genius inventions.

He invited his brother to join him and together they chose the location of a small existing distillery where fresh water and access to the sea were available at the breathtaking Brighton beach. The quality of their rum was recognized right away locally and internationally. A few decades later, “Stade’s” even became another word for rum on the island of Barbados and the distillery rapidly became the largest on the island. To this day, the Stade’s West Indies Rum distillery is still proudly making great Barbados rum.

Barbadian (or Bajan) rum is known for its smooth, well-balanced, and complex flavor profile, often characterized by prominent notes of vanilla, caramel, and toffee. Including hints of tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, along with warm spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Subtle undertones of coconut, molasses, and oak contribute to its complex and rich character. Overall, Barbadian rum is celebrated for its harmony and balance, offering a delightful interplay of sweet, spicy, and fruity flavors with a smooth, rich finish.
